In addition to his role as a Director of ROD-IS, Alan is currently an Associate Professor in Civil Engineering at Trinity College Dublin. He is a Chartered Engineer with extensive international experience in probability based safety assessment of existing structures. He has authored over 120 technical papers in this field and numerous book chapters. For the past 10 years he has acted in a professional capacity as a specialist consultant in probabilistic safety assessment and optimized lifetime maintenance management planning for infrastructural elements/networks. He has advised clients such as: Irish Rail, the Irish National Roads Authority; the Danish Roads Directorate, the Norwegian Roads Authority, Swedish Railways and The Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management. Through his affiliation with both ROD-IS and TCD, Alan has been involved in research projects in the FP5, FP6, FP7 EU funded framework programmes and has ongoing projects in the FP7, H2020 and CEDR funded projects.
