Eugene OBrien


Having completed his PhD in Canada, Eugene spent five years in Consulting Engineering before moving to the university sector in 1990. Since 1998, Eugene has been Professor, and did two terms as Head of Civil Engineering, at University College Dublin. Eugene is the author of books on Concrete Design and Bridge Analysis and more than 250 papers on bridge dynamics and bridge traffic loading.  He has been on the international scientific committees for conferences on Bridge Engineering, Weigh-in-Motion and Pavement Engineering and has had research projects in 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th European Framework Programmes, Horizon 2020 and CEDR programs through his affiliation with both UCD and ROD-IS.  He was the founder and a past president of the International Society for Weigh-In-Motion (ISWIM). Eugene has led a number of projects in ROD-IS for clients such as national Road and Rail Authorities and large global engineering consultancies.
